California’s Highway One runs from Capistrano Beach in Orange County to Leggett in northern Mendocino.
Its route sometimes follows the coastline, but far more of it does not, passing instead through neighborhoods and mundane strip malls.
Highway One is one of the most scenic drives in the country. It often runs so close to the edge of the continent that it feels like you could reach out and dangle your fingers in the water.
Highway One is especially beautiful in the spring, when the yellow mustard is blooming in every field.
